Controversy over whether the new Pyrenean commissioner tramples on functions of other established bodies

Junts per Catalunya Pirineu argue that the area "does not need a commissioner, but explicit commitments from the Government and Parliament"

Controversy over whether the new Pyrenean commissioner tramples on functions of other established bodies

This Tuesday the Department of European Union and External Action of the Generalitat of Catalonia announced that the Commissioner for Inter-Pyrenean relations was being created and that it would be led by Joan Ganyet , who was mayor of La Seu d'Urgell. Its fundamental function will be to represent the Catalan executive in the territories of the High Pyrenees and in relations with Andorra. However, it must be taken into account that the Generalitat already has a delegate in Andorra, Anna Vives. Together for Catalonia Pirineu has made public its anger because "it is not understood that a new political position is created" when there are two figures, the Delegation of the Government in the Pyrenees and the Delegation of the Generalitat in Andorra .

However, they criticize that the assigned functions trample on the competences of the bodies that were already established. In addition, they state that the policies linked to mountain issues are led by the general direction of Mountain with the executive support of the Institute for the Development and Promotion of the Alt Pirineu and Aran (IDAPA).From Junts per Catalunya Pirineu they finish their criticism by adding that the Pyrenees "does not need a commissioner, but explicit commitments from the Government and Parliament" and refer to the full deployment of the mountain law and more resources for IDAPA, for mobility, for housing, health and education, among others.
